DEADLINE: Dec. 5
The Center for Mexican American Studies (CMAS) in the College of Liberal Arts at the University of Texas at Austin is pleased to announce the Carlos E. Castañeda Postdoctoral Fellowship in Mexican American Studies. Supported by the Office of the President, this postdoctoral fellowship is in memory of Professor Carlos Eduardo Castañeda (1896-1958), one of the first archivists, scholars, and activists in Mexican American studies, who was a UT Austin alumnus and faculty member.
CMAS is accepting applications for this twelve-month appointment for the 2017-2018 academic year, September 1, 2017 — August 31, 2018. The Castañeda Fellow is obligated to be in residence in Austin, Texas, during the entire fellowship year.
The Castañeda Fellow is expected to make a contribution to CMAS's research program in the form of a major research or writing project. Use of the Mexican American archival materials at the LLILAS Benson Latin American Collection is encouraged. In addition, the Fellow is required to teach one undergraduate course in the Department of Mexican American and Latino Studies (MALS) during her or his residency. She or he is also required to deliver a public lecture in CMAS during the spring semester of residency and to otherwise actively participate in the intellectual life of the Center. The fellow will receive a stipend of $48,000, health insurance benefits, a moving allowance, shared office space, and logistical office support.
Applicants must have completed the doctoral degree within the three years prior to the beginning of the fellowship year (January 2014-December 2016). Current UT Austin faculty members and UT Austin doctorate recipients are not eligible.
To apply, please submit a cover letter, curriculum vitae, a writing sample, a transcript, a syllabus, and three confidential letters of recommendation. Complete applications must be received by 5:00 pm CST Monday, December 5, 2016, for consideration.
