by Jennifer Boles | Nov 13, 2017

The Spanish and Portuguese Program of the Department of Languages, Literatures, and Cultures at the University of Massachusetts Amherst invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor in Latino/a/Latinx Literary and Cultural Studies, to begin September 1, 2018.

We seek applications from candidates engaged in scholarship on Latino/a/Latinx literature and culture, informed by critical ethnic studies, and whose teaching demonstrates experience in community engagement and service-learning pedagogies.  We are particularly interested in candidates whose research and interests address Latino/a/Latinx populations in the northeastern United States, along with their links to Latin American and Caribbean communities of origin.

Duties include teaching courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels in the area of the candidate's specialization as well as supporting the needs of the Spanish, Catalan and Portuguese Program, advising undergraduate and graduate students, and performing service duties as required by the department and the university.  The successful candidate will establish working relationships with local Latino/a/Latinx partner organizations to develop a community-engaged curriculum.

Applicants must have a Ph.D. in Spanish, Comparative Literature, Performance Studies, or a relevant field by the time of appointment.  Native or near native fluency in Spanish and English is required.  Preference is given to applicants with a record of instruction in Spanish.  A background working with heritage learners of Spanish is also strongly preferred.;jsessionid=FE97F3488F5B35FADCDE04EC55A5A4FA;jsessionid=4C84A5AEE71F38ED6D134B214DF417B1?JOBID=91063&CNTRNO=1&TSTMP=1509367180202
